The world, god. To his creator.

A father photographs his son. The son’s body appears larger than the landscape behind him. Not as a technical trick, but as an emotional truth. To Kostromin, his son Theodor is as great as the world. Or rather, his son is the world and god to him. 

The name Theodor comes from the Ancient Greek Theódōros, meaning “gift of God”, combining the words theos (“god”) and dōron (“gift”).

The scale in the image is not a manipulated reality but rather an accurate one – the reality of what a parent feels, made visible.

Alexei Kostromin is a Paris-based portrait and editorial photographer born in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. His works span L’Officiel, Esquire, Hube, and Flanelle magazine, among others. People and humanity are the central focus of his artistic practice.
