Osamu Yokonami (born 1967, Japan) subtly explores the line between instinct and identity. What began as a study of childhood spontaneity—children balancing a piece of fruit between their shoulder and chin beneath ever-changing skies—evolves into a meditation on self-awareness.

In the early photographs, the children gaze into the camera with innocence, shifting between playfulness and solemnity. Five years later, under the same light, their gestures are more assured and their expressions more grounded: instinct gives way to an emerging sense of self. Between fruit and skin, sky and shoulder, instinct and intention, a tender portrait of the transition toward selfhood unfolds.

The book includes a foreword by Osamu Yokonami in Japanese, accompanied by an English translation.
