With an almost enigmatic sense of distance, Christine Furuya-Gössler captures reality. Photographs (1978–1985) brings together seven years of her photographs, presented to the public for the very first time.

Known primarily through the eyes of her husband, Seiichi Furuya, for whom she became both muse and subject, Christine Furuya-Gössler began photographing in 1978, the year they met.

A photographer of everyday life, she offers a singular vision of intimacy and her relationship with the world. She photographs her family, shared moments, celebrations, and travels, while at the same time maintaining a distance from the person attempting to capture her own image. The palpable melancholy that permeates these photographs hints at her inner world without ever allowing it to be fully grasped or understood.

Comprising more than 120 photographs, Photographs (1978–1985) is an unprecedented publication, presenting Christine Furuya-Gössler's work for the first time. Her photographs had never previously been exhibited or published. This posthumous monograph is the first to bring together the photographer's complete body of work from a seven-year period of artistic production, cut short by her death in 1985.
